We are looking for an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Bike Maintenance Tutor to join our education team at HMYOI Werrington. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone with a background in cycle mechanics, bicycle repair, engineering, or a related trade who is passionate about sharing their skills and helping others build a positive future.
In this role, you will deliver engaging, practical training in cycle maintenance and repair up to Level 2, equipping learners with industry-relevant skills, recognised qualifications, and the confidence to progress into further training, employment, or self-employment.

The Role
As a Bike Maintenance Tutor, you will:
- Plan and deliver engaging cycle maintenance and repair programmes up to Level 2.
- Develop schemes of work, lesson plans, and learning resources that meet curriculum and awarding body requirements.
- Assess learner progress and provide constructive feedback to support achievement.
- Maintain accurate learner records, assessment documentation, and compliance paperwork.
- Support learners in developing practical skills, employability skills, and personal confidence.
- Contribute to Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) and identify any additional support needs.
- Work collaboratively with Functional Skills and learner support teams to embed literacy, numeracy, and employability skills into vocational learning.
- Promote safe working practices and maintain high standards of health and safety within the workshop environment.
- Participate in quality assurance activities, including internal verification and moderation processes.
- Safeguard and support learner wellbeing, ensuring a positive, inclusive learning environment.
- Encourage progression into further learning, employment, and meaningful careers.
About You
Essential
- Minimum of 2 years' industry experience within cycle mechanics, bicycle repair, engineering, or a related vocational field.
- Strong knowledge of bicycle diagnostics, servicing, maintenance, and repair.
- Excellent communication and learner engagement skills.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and work to quality assurance requirements.
- Commitment to achieving a recognised teaching qualification within 6 months if not already held.
- Commitment to achieving an Assessor Award within 12 months if required.
- Minimum Level 1 Literacy and Numeracy or willingness to achieve.
- Ability to obtain and maintain an Enhanced DBS check.
Desirable
- Level 2 or higher qualification in Cycle Mechanics, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Teaching qualification (AET, PTLLS, CET, or equivalent).
- Assessor qualification (TAQA, A1, or equivalent).
- IQA qualification.
- Level 2 Literacy and Numeracy.
- Experience delivering vocational training, apprenticeships, or adult education.
- Experience supporting learners from diverse backgrounds or those with additional learning needs.
